Abilene police are calling the discovery Tuesday morning of a man’s body in a northwest Abilene apartment building an unattended death.

Interim police chief Kevin Diercks said officers and emergency crews were dispatched to 711 N.W. 11th, Apartment A-5, at 11:18 a.m. Tuesday, to a report of an unresponsive male and unresponsive female after a call was made by Everett Cunningham, who also lives at the residence.

Diercks said emergency crews found 60-year-old Calvin Cunningham, who had been lying down, deceased. There were no signs of trauma.

A 58-year-old female, Judy Cunningham, was taken to Abilene’s Memorial Hospital. When officers arrived they found Judy Cunningham sitting in a chair and she became responsive. Judy Cunningham was treated and released.

Diercks said he did not expect foul play in the death of Calvin Cunningham.

Calvin Cunningham had been in poor health, Diercks said. Calvin Cunningham’s body will be sent to Frontier Forensics, Topeka, for an autopsy. Results will not be known for some time.
