On June 1 the Abilene Cowboy basketball team met for the “Cowboy Time” with coaches Bin Graefe, Eric Graefe and Tim Klein for “Team Improvement and Development.”

Theme sessions continued until the end of June. The team met every Tuesday and Thursday.

Cowboy players who participaged were Reed Koop, Nick Rice, Cameron Lang, Darian Polk, Cody Whitehair, Gus Dautel, Cody Lang, Adrian Polk, Collin Sexton, Kaynan Anderson, Matt Barlow, Marcus Gonzales, Jacob Harms, Andy Wilson, Trevor Witt, Matt Allen, Chad Beetch, Ethan Hodge, Kiel Kelly, Jesse Patrick, Matt Auguino, Ty Holt, Kilan Millner and Jaron Reages.

June 7-11 Abilene conducted Cowboy camp that incorporated all aspects of the Abilene basketball program. Each day from 8-10 a.m. the Abilene Middle School would conduct sessions and the High School players took over at 10 a.m.-noon. The players participated in learning the skills of basketball to prepare the team for the upcoming season.

June 12 began the Cowboy’s summer competition schedule. Abilene first traveled to a tournament at Salina South where the Cowboy varsity playing Salina Central, Mill Creek Valley and El Dorado and posted a 2-1 record. The Cowboy junior varsity played Salina South, El Dorado and Marysville and won all three games.

Both AHS varsity and junior varsity squads then traveled to KU for a team camp where they played teams from Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Texas and some elite teams.

The varsity ended the KU team camp with a 5-2 record and the JV went 4-3.

The Cowboys then went to the Hays MAYB tournament where the varsity posted a 4-2 reocrd and the junior varsity went undefeated to win the tournament.

The Cowboy Basketball Summer program ended with the varsity having an 11-5 record and the JV compiling a 13-3 record.
