Meeting Tuesday with the MHS board of directors, chief executive officer Mark Miller said he had reached a tentative agreement with the two residents who are currently finishing their medical studies.
“They want us to prepare final, formal contracts,” he said. “We’ve addressed all their primary concerns.”
Miller told board members he is still looking to recruit a third new physician for the hospital staff.
Updating the board regarding new construction at the hospital, Miller received consensus to call the street on the south side of the new hospital parking lot Memorial View.
Miller told board members he had polled several people about a name for the hospital-owned access road that will allow vehicles to enter the parking lot from Brown and Brady streets.
“This will not be a city street,” he said, adding Abilene city officials suggested the use of brown and white signage for the access road.
While he joked that he wouldn’t publically say some of the names, Miller said the majority of those he polled said “Memorial” should be worked into the name.
“We need to call it something,” he added.
Speaking to the board about other areas of construction, Miller said no major issues have occurred since the board’s April meeting, when final details were discussed for new radiology equipment.
“Now that we’ve chosen radiology equipment, we are nailing down details for the room,” he said. “Perhaps we will have to redesign the room.”
Miller said the construction project will take on a new look when steel arrives later this month.
In other business, hospital board members:
• heard a report from Miller regarding a garden project at Village Manor.
• received the monthly and year-to-date financial reports from chief operating officer Elgin Glanzer.
• had their annual meeting, re-elected officers from 2011-12 to continue in 2012-13 and appointed board committee members from 2011-12 to continue in 2012-13. They also received the annual report and presentation of the audit report from Wendling, Noe, Nelson and Johnson LLC, Topeka, from the previous year. Board members also elected

• met for 20 minutes for an executive session for real estate and non-elected personnel matters. No action was taken when the board returned to open session.
