The 20th Annual Abilene Aviation Association Fly-In and Pancake Feed will be held from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday May 5, at the Abilene Municipal Airport.

The association expects a wide variety of aircraft from regular production models to experimental home-built, antique and historic military aircraft.

Kansas State University at Salina is also expected to bring an aircraft that they fly for their pilot training program. Prospective students may visit with the pilots about the school’s program.

Weather conditions the day of the event usually determine the number of aircraft that attend the event. In past years, as many as 80-plus aircraft have attended the fly-in and pancake feed.

Adults and children are invited to come out to the airport and eat pancakes and sausage then walk around the flight line to view the airplanes and talk with the owners and pilots of these aircraft.

The show is free but there is a charge for breakfast. Pancake tickets are $5 for ages 11 and above and $3 for children ages 3 through 10. They may be purchased from any aviation association member or at the door the day of the fly-in. There is no charge to walk the flight line and view the aircraft.

The money raised from the pancake feed is used to fund aviation scholarships for higher education. Any student who graduates from an accredited high school in Dickinson County and wants to pursue a career in an aviation field, is eligible to apply for the scholarships.

The event is open to the public and organizers welcome all to attend the fly-in whether they are involved in aviation or just interested in airplanes.
