In team scoring, the Cowboys placed fifth with 56 points. Chapman scored 17. The Lady Irish placed fifth with 51 points while the Cowgirls scored 34.
Cody Whitehair was Abilene’s only first place finisher. His throw of 52 feet won the shot put event. He came close to his season best 52-5.25 effort at Abilene.
Collin Sexton placed second in two events. In the long jump Sexton has his best leap of the year in 20 feet, 10-1/2 inches. That topped his best jump of 19-9. Sexton also placed second in the triple jump with a 41-6.5 effort, close to his season best 42-8. Andy Wilson placed third in the triple jump for Abilene with a 40-6 effort, improving over his season best 38-0.
Marcus Gonzales won the bronze medal for second place in the high jump. He finished in a tie for first place clearing 6 feet but lost the tiebreaker. Gonzales best jump this year is 6-2.
For Chapman, Collin Trickle improved in both the 800 and 1600-meter runs. He placed second in the 1600 with a time of 4 minutes, 53.47 second. His season best was 4:58. Trickle placed third in the 800 running 2:09.23, improving over his season best of 2:12.90.
In the girls’ meet, Chapman’s Jill Kurtz had a great day winning three events and placing second in a fourth.
Kurtz won both hurdle events with Abilene’s Kelsey Lacy running second in both. Kurtz ran her fastest time in the 110-meter hurdles in 15 seconds flat. Her season best was 15.17. Lacy placed second running 15.22, just a few tenths off her season best of 15.16 at Lindsborg.
In the 300-meter hurdles Kurtz ran 45.43, lowing her season best of 46.7. Lacy also ran her personal best in the hurdles in 47.38. Her best was 47.81 she clocked at the KU Relays.
Kurtz also won the 400-meter dash in 1:00.34, the fastest time in the North Central Kansas League.
Kurtz placed second in the long jump with a 16-8, another season best improving on her 15-5 jump.
Lacy also placed third in the high jump, 4-10.
Also for Abilene, Macey Dinkel placed third in the discus with a 94-8 throw. That also was her best effort this season improving on her 91-7 effort.
Both teams travel to Russell on Friday. The NCKL meet is May 13 at Marysville.
