Co-owners Todd and Michel Hokanson celebrated the weight loss of 53 participants in a 12-week class with a recognition evening Tuesday night at the store at 208 N. Broadway.
One of those recognized was “the top winner-loser,” Annette Caldwell, rural Abilene, who collected $599 as part of a contest that awarded prizes. Caldwell had lost 13.3 percent of her body weight, 21.28 pounds and 11.25 inches.
About 40 participants showed up for Tuesday’s party as they shared hugs and laughs. Todd Hokanson said the goal of the Healthy Solutions’ way is to increase nutritional awareness and the need for exercise.
Officials with Healthy Solutions said that when nutrition and exercise are in balance a person feels better about himself or herself. The Hokansons said there was one person who lost more than 100 pounds since entering the program in April 2009.
“It does pay to stick with it,” Todd said.
Next week Abilene and Herington are going to announce a friendly contest and challenge with a goal of raising awareness about health.
