The Abilene Tree Board is planning a tree planting demonstration at 10 a.m. Saturday in the public right of way triangle at Charles Road, Park Avenue and Kuney Street.

Jennie Hiett, community development clerk, said tree board members will plant an aristocrat pear tree and answer questions. A local landscape firm, Proscape Inc., will plant two more trees at the site at a later time.

Hiett said the demonstration is a good opportunity for people who want to know how to plant and care for a tree. Abilene is a Tree City USA designated community, she said.

City staff will be on hand to give out brochures. In case of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled, Hiett said.
